Abstract
This article proposes and substantiates a practical solution to the issue of determining the type of magnetic core of a three-phase transformer or reactor used in a mathematical model of the device. A three-legged single magnetic circuit is perhaps the most common due to its compactness. But, unlike other core configurations, it also provides strong magnetic links between the winding phases, which affects transient processes, including in unbalanced modes, as well as the ability to limit common mode currents. These circumstances are important for obtaining adequate simulation results.
